when did it become this horrible idea that whoever buys the best gift from Macy’s Nordstrom,Ralph Lauren, and all the other fancy stores is the best in family. That’s not what its about. Christmas was always my favorite time of the year because its the time of giving. Whether it be a smile from one stranger to another or that one aunt you never see but magically shows up one year next to your Christmas tree saying her presence is your present. It some how turned into “who can buy the best most expensive present will have bragging rights” day. Now don’t get me wrong i love seeing the face my son makes when i buy him that toy hes been asking for. But there’s more to it. Have we all forgotten about the people who are less fortunate begging for a penny or even second of our time. Maybe they didn’t want the measly coin you threw at them. Maybe they just wanted you to ask how they are doing. Instead we just call them “bums” and tell them to get a job. Cause they are all the same right?. Did you forget that they were people too? That they had a family? That maybe they didn’t ask for this? Maybe it was there fault but who are you to judge? Maybe they want just one more meal to get them through the week. while rain, snow, and wind weakens them.
As you walk out of that fancy store don’t forget about the person who has less than you. the person who never got the same chances you did. or maybe he/she did and that person is just waiting for someone to acknowledge their existence for that extra push. Christmas is not what you think it is. Take a look around and give a helping hand. Give someone hope this year..
